<p class="TextInTable">Long-click the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Insert Object</span> icon found in the Main toolbar to display the floating toolbar. Then click the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Insert Chart</span> icon and the cursor will change to a cross-hair symbol with a small chart symbol.</p>
<p class="TextInTable">In the spreadsheet document, open a selection rectangle defining the location and size of the chart. Both can be modified subsequently.</p>
<p class="TextInTable">As soon as you release the mouse button, a dialog appears in which you can make further entries. You can also simply click the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Create</span> button to create a chart with the default settings.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">This example shows the number of times people of different age groups in various cities go to the movie theater annually.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you would rather put the age groups than the towns on the horizontal axis, you can "tilt" the chart subsequently: As long as the chart remains selected, the main toolbar contains a <span style="font-weight:bold;">Data in Columns</span> icon. Click on it.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">You are free to make other changes to the individual elements of the chart. You can either double-click on the individual parts of the chart or, with the chart selected, choose the individual functions from the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Format</span> menu. For example, if you double-click on the color preview in the legend, you can automatically reformat all relevant data points. On the other hand, if you click on the background in the box of the legend, you just format the background to the legend.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you created the chart from the data of a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Calc spreadsheet, the data series that you click on in the chart are highlighted.</p>

Open the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Show Draw Functions</span> floating toolbar and select the first tool, the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Select</span> arrow. This allows you to click on the chart.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">In a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Calc chart, you can move a data series forwards or backwards. You can arrange the series in such a way that the lowest 3D representations are as far forward as possible and the higher ones further back. To change the arrangement in the chart, use a command in the context menu of a data series or choose <span style="font-weight:bold;">Format - Order</span>. The output data in the <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Calc spreadsheet will not be rearranged.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:key-word value="values; changing in a chart" tag="kw68403_17"/><help:key-word value="charts; changing values in" tag="kw68403_16"/>When you insert a chart in a presentation or drawing document with the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Insert - Insert Chart</span> floating toolbar, it is displayed with a set of sample data. If you want to insert a chart in a spreadsheet, you have to select the cells in the spreadsheet whose values should be displayed in the chart.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer documents too, you can insert a chart obtained from the data of a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer table. If you have not selected any data in a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer table, choosing <span style="font-weight:bold;">Insert - Object - Chart</span> also inserts a chart containing sample data in <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can change the values in a chart containing sample data by double-clicking on the chart and then choosing <help:link Id="66991"><span style="font-weight:bold;">Edit - Chart Data</span></help:link>. If you want to change the values of a chart obtained from selected data, you have to alter the values in the cells of the table. If the chart is in a text document, press (F9) to update the chart.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Modification of chart data is also possible if you, for example, have copied a chart from a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Calc document into a <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> <text:s text:c="" xmlns:text="http://openoffice.org/2000/text"/>Writer document and now double-click the chart in the <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer document. Remember, however, you are only editing the copy and not the original document.</p>

When you double-click on the chart and choose <span style="font-weight:bold;">Format - Chart Type</span>, a dialog appears, presenting you with various types to choose from.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:key-word value="Combination Chart" tag="kw68403_14"/><help:key-word value="Bar Chart" tag="kw68403_13"/>Try out the different options in the Chart Type dialog. You can also switch between 2D and 3D representation. With the <span style="font-weight:bold;">Columns</span> chart type you can select a <span style="font-weight:bold;">Combination Chart</span> of lines and columns.</p>
